Questions

Before you write back

What is the Jane Austen letter subscription?

Jane Austen Post mails you physical letters written by characters from Jane Austen’s novels. You receive two mailings a month, and the story unfolds through them. The collection starts with Pride and Prejudice, with letters from Elizabeth, Jane, Mr. Darcy and their circle.

Are these original works or reprints of letters from the book?

The majority of what you'll be reading is our adaptation of the events of the story told through original letters written between the characters. We do include letters from the book for a complete and immersive experience.

How much does the Jane Austen letter subscription cost?

It costs $15 a month, or $99 for a full year (paid once, with no automatic renewal), which works out to about $8.25 a month and saves $81 compared with paying monthly. Both plans include the same two mailings a month. Subscribers outside the United States pay an extra shipping charge at checkout.

Are the letters physical or digital?

Physical. Every letter is printed, folded and sent to your mailbox. Nothing arrives by email. The letters are meant to be opened by hand, kept, reread and collected, the way Austen’s characters kept theirs.

When do letters ship?

Letters are mailed on the 1st and 15th of every month. Subscribe at least two days before a mailing date to be included in it; otherwise your first letters go out on the next one. Every subscriber starts with the first letter of the story, whenever they join.

Which novel comes first?

Pride and Prejudice. The letters follow the novel’s own calendar, from the autumn of 1811 when Netherfield is let to the weddings that close the story. The other Austen novels follow as their own series of letters. Who knows, we might even venture into other fiction!

Will you have more letters after Pride and Prejudice?

Yes, we're already itching to write our next series, but would love to hear what our readers want to see next. Make sure to vote on what you want to see next!

Can I gift a subscription?

Yes. Choose a plan and enter the recipient’s name and address at checkout, and the letters are addressed to them. The annual plan makes the simplest gift because it is paid once, never renews, and the letters keep arriving all year.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We currently ship to the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia. Shipping is free in the US. International subscribers pay $2 extra a month ($15 total), or $24 extra a year ($123 total) on the annual plan. Your letters arrive on the same schedule, two mailings a month.

How do I cancel?

You can cancel a monthly subscription from your account at any time before your next billing date, and no further letters are charged. The annual plan is paid once and simply ends after a year. It never renews, so there is nothing to cancel.
